Discovery - you may find yourself being “guided”

I attended a talk given by a counsellor/hypnotherapist and afterwards, I approached her and asked if she could help people with M.E. to which she replied yes so I arranged to go and see her.

As the appointment day approached, I became increasingly nervous about going, about letting someone put me in a trance, letting someone have control over my mind. To be honest, at this stage I was very anxious about anything new or out of the ordinary, anything that might "make me worse."

One day, before my appointment, I was listening to the radio and the subject being interviewed was someone who had recently visited an hypnotherapist and received great help, she even got rid of her piles! So I went from anxiety to amusement and was reassured.

My sessions with hypnotherapy were extremely beneficial and from them, I learned to self hypnotise. I developed my own protocol so could carry on the work at home.

This is one example of being helped and guided, by what or whom I don’t know and for many, including me, could be seen as extremely woo woo. However I learnt to trust this process. If I got 3 “nudges” in a row, I would follow up. This, after a while became 2 nudges. Some might call it intuition or gut feelings. Nudges would be things like a book opening at the right page, an overheard conversation, something that would hint, a dream an unexpected sign.

Another couple of examples:

I had recently been reading about the phenomenon of enlightenment and wondered whether there were any neurological changes in the brain. Within minutes the phone rang and a friend of mine asked me whether I had come across an article on neurological changes in the brain of enlightened people by Christian Opitz!

I was having a really difficult time with anxiety and tension and feeling unwell. I asked myself "did I really put my hand up for all this?" and a distinctly "separate" voice in my head replied "yes, but you've forgotten when!" I immediately shifted into acceptance, peacefulness and amusement.

This type of “help” could also be called synchronicity. Where does it come from? I have absolutely no idea, but it’s fun! However it is prudent to not follow blindly all the nudges one might get. As they say, keep an open mind but don't let your brains fall out!

It’s also possible to to guide yourself. In other words follow your intuition and inner wisdom. With practice you can learn to sense and feel a yes or no.

I have also learnt to use “heart wisdom” which I will explain later and kinesiology.

Whatever, it is a joy to experience this type of event, a book falls off a shelf, you overhear a person say something meaningful etc.

Maintain a healthy scepticism and investigate. Be curious and wary. Is this for you? Including what I'm writing about. Don't believe a word I say, investigate for yourself.

Sad to say, there is a lot of rubbish out there too. Sometimes it’s well meaning rubbish but rubbish is rubbish.

Having said that, sometimes therapies work for someone else and not for you and vice versa. Check it out.

Heart Wisdom

(I learnt this useful tool when I trained with HeartMath UK)

There are times when you can think and think a problem and get nowhere, just going round in circles.

When that happens, I take myself off quietly and sit. I focus on my heart area, I breathe, as if breathing through my heart area with an even inhale and exhale, and I take my problem to my heart and wait for its reply.

It is usually a completely different outlook on the issue, more whole, complete and less pressure. It's frequently less of a doing and more of a being answer (but not always).

Another tool I have learnt to use is my body's wisdom. It seems to know what is best for me even if "I" don't. As I learnt to trust these processes I became aware of my whole body responding in either a "happy" way or a "no this isn't for you" way. In the former I feel joyous, positive, open and in the latter, shut down, closed. There is a difference between a no and a fearful reaction though. I may be wary even if it may be a good idea so "make haste slowly."

Healing oneself this way is not easy to begin with but it does work and is permanent. The good news is that with diligence and practice, it gets easier and easier. Your body starts to lead you. Your body wants to heal.

What got in my way of my healing - I did!
